Predator Might Sneak Into Roster of Mortal Kombat X as DLC

Better than the Alien, in any case, given how much blood gets thrown around

You know, it’s actually surprising this hasn’t been made offical already.

Okay, so, look at the most recent fighting games to have come out in the past, oh, let’s say 5 years. We have: Capcom Vs. Marvel, Street Fighter Vs. Tekken (and Tekken Vs. Street Fighter, that’s still happening) Super Smash Brothers, Soul Caliber 5, 2011’s Mortal Kombat, Playstation All-Stars

What do all these games have in common? Crossovers. It seems that the one ‘selling point’ fighting games use to lure new players into their fold (you know, scrublords like myself who don’t understand the fine difference in gameplay between Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter) is the kind of crossovers they have. Super Smash Brothers has Sonic, Megaman and Pac-Man, Soul Caliber 5 had Yoda and Darth Vader, Mortal Kombat had Freddy Kruger (of all things) and Kratos…

The only game I can think of that didn’t have a crossover fighter is Injustice: Gods Among Usand the dozens of other fighting games I’ve never heard of that have also come out, but never mind them.

Anyway, with the announcement earlier last year of the upcoming Mortal Combat X, it was only a matter of time before we heard what kind of crossover fighter we’d see. And according to Video Gamer, the first extra-fighter DLC coming to Mortal Combat X will include the Predator; the planet-hopping hunters whose whole society is built around the killing of worthy pray.

It makes more sense than Freddy Kruger did, at least.

While the details of this rumor are being kept secret by Video Gamer, it’s believable in part due to a tweet last July by creative director Ed Boon showing a photo shopped mash-up of Scorpion fighting The Predator with the caption “Predator in MKX would be so sick!” There was nothing in the tweet hinting that it would ever happen, but maybe it was enough to inspire talks between NeverRealm and Fox, the current owners of the franchise.

It’s also worth noting that yesterday, Todd McFarlan gave his public blessing for NeverRealm to add Spawn to the roster in an interview. So who knows, maybe Predator won’t be the only visitor to the Earthrealms.
