RPCS3 was founded by DH and Hykem, two programmers who originally hosted the project to Google code, then later GitHub. When it released in 2012 I could only run simple homebrew projects. Now it is considered one of the most complex console emulators online.
When you visit the site dedicated to RPCS3, you are now greeted with a small statement and a large countdown.
WE'LL BE MAKING AN ANNOUNCEMENT SOONTM
The countdown timer is until 12pm EST on December 1. So far, it's entirely unknown what this announcement will be to merit this degree of attention. What sticks out the most, however, is the trademark symbol at the end of their statement. Some searching for the United States Patent and Trademark Office show close to that phrase has been trademarked. It can only be assumed that it is either announcing something trademarked or they just don't know what TM means.
With the legal gray area that video game emulators lie in, it is difficult to believe that anything relating to this project can be owned. Not to mentioned that's averse to the idea of open-source projects by nature.
Regardless be sure to check back with us on December 1 to find out what the hubbub is all about.
