This is turning out to be a good week if you're both a fan of Nintendo and fighting games: first we get a possible sneak peak at what could be the full Super Smash Brothers roster, and now this.
Just watch it first...
Yep, thats right: Nintendo and Bandai Namco of Tekken fame have teamed up to create a Pokemon fighting game for arcade cabinets in Japan. Let that sink in for a moment: a genuine, bone-fied Pokemon fighting game!
When Nintendo first announced it planned on giving third parties the right to use their IPs way back at the start of the year, I don't think anyone guessed they were going to take it as far as it's apparently gotten. Between this, Hyrule Warriors, Super Smash Bros (which is also being done by Bandai Namco), Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem they've really doubled down on this new strategy of theirs. And looking at how awesome that trailer is, it's paying off so far.
Doesn't pay to be an American, though: based on the trailer, this arcade system will only release in Japan (where Arcades are still fairly popular) and there is no indication it's going to come stateside, let alone get a console port. Which is disappointing, but there's one thing to keep in mind: this is an English Trailer released by the American Official Pokemon Channelnot a leak or a re-posted video from a Japanese site. That doesn't guarantee anything, but it could mean Nintendo is trying to gauge interest from a Western Audience.
Still, thats just speculation on my part.
