Pokemon isn't a democracy, but it's still got a president: Tsunekazu Ishihara, chief executive of the Pokemon Company. And while the Pokemon Company has its hands full right now with the upcoming release of Pokemon: Sun and Moon, it didn't stop him from having an interview with the Wall Street Journal regarding the Nintendo NX and their plans with the console: and in doing so, he's all but confirmed what we've suspected for so long--the NX will not only be host to new Pokemon games, but it will also indeed be a mobile console.

"The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device. We will make games for the NX."

Well, there you have it. It's hard to imagine Nintendo would step away from that and claim he's mistaken, so, it's basically official. Not that we likely have a very long wait to go until we see what the NX actually is, mind, but still, in case a Nintendo fan dies tomorrow, at least they don't have to go to the hereafter wondering what the deal with the new console is. Now, he didn't say what kind of games they'd be making for the NX--the GameCube, Wii, and Wii U certainly had Pokemon games, but they were spin-offs--but if it really is a mobile console, there's no reason to think it wouldn't be main game material.

He also spoke some on Pokemon Go, but I think we could have safely predicted that. Regardless, give the full thing a read if you feel so inclined. For us, the main message of the story is clear: the NX is the future of Nintendo's attempt to re-monopolize the mobile market.

Let's see if it works...
