We’ve got a live-action World of Warcraft movie, a live-action Assassin’s Creed movie (yeah, I bet you forgot about that) and that live-action Hitman movie you probably didn’t see. Live-action adaptations to video games are all the rage these days, and you’ll never guess what the next game to get the live-action treatment might be.
According to The Hollywood Reporter: Legendary Pictures, Sony and Warner Brothers are currently in a bidding war over who can earn the film rights to a live-action Pokemon movie.
Wow. I’m not sure if I should be surprised this is happening, or surprised this didn’t happen sooner.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that Legendary Pictures is looking to win the bidding war, which will put everyone in an awkward position, as Game Freak is japanese and Legendary is chinese, and the two countries don’t exactly get along very well. But when you’ve got a property as potentially lucrative as Pokemon on offer, century-old rivalries can be put aside, right?
Either way… this is pretty huge. A live-action pokemon movie is an insane prospect, I mean, what would the plot even be? How would they do the pokemon? Would they also get voice acting?
Well… there’s a lot of reasons a movie can fail, so this could ultimately mean nothing. But still… The potential exists…
