Servers don't last forever. If a game is old enough, the people running their online capabilities will eventually decide to shut them down, freeing up resources for new projects. Now it seems that Twisted Metal, Warhawk, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale are meeting that exact fate.
Notices for each game has appeared on their product pages, citing a date where online functionality will no longer be supported: October 25. Each game then goes into detail regarding what functionality will change exactly.
For Twisted Metal, you can continue to play the campaign offline as well as couch co-op mode. You will no longer be able to host or join online games.
Warhawk, being an online-only title, will no longer be playable as normal. This can be circumvented by setting the PS3 to LAN mode and playing with a local network if you're determined.
The biggest title to suffer this fall, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, will no longer support online games. Offline single-player and couch co-op will still function as normal.
Our sympathies go out to Warhawk the most, who was most damaged by this decision. As well as to the small handful of people who still played.
