Sony has officially launched the PS4 Remote Play app for iOS devices. This will allow users to access and play games on the PS4 console directly from their mobile device.
PS4 Remote Play has been an available option for a few years now. Players could play remotely from their PC or PS Vita. Until now, the only way to use the app on mobile devices was to purchase a Sony Xperia smartphone, the company's brand of Android devices.
In order to download the app, visit the iOS App Store on your iPhone or iPad and search/download the PS4 Remote Play app by Sony. Once downloaded, you pair the app with a PS4 console for full control of the console. It's noted that you will need a PSN account and the device has to be connected to WiFi.
Users can use the smartphone screen to control the console. PS4 control buttons are displayed on the screen, which the user can press to simulate a controller. DualShock 4 controllers, which Bluetooth-connectable, do not function with the app at this time, though various third-party controllers may work.
Currently, there is no word on if the app will be released on Android markets. Various online modders and hackers have all confirmed that the Sony Xperia version of the Remote Play app works on most non-Xperia devices when rooted, So the decision to not open it to the full market might be a business decision more than a technical one.
