PlayerUnknown might be king of Steam right now, but that might just be because its in a load of hot water. Between calls for bans in China, players upset with a plethora of performance problems, and Fortnites Battle Royale mode acting as a surprisingly solid competitor, the games developers will have to act fast if it wants to stay relevant and on top of the charts.

Unfortunately, expedient action was never exactly their strong suit.

Earlier today, at Paris Games Week, the developers made the official announcement that they plan to release version 1.0 of PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds by late December of this year, which would officially take the title out of early access. That leaves them with about two months to sort out all its many problems if it wants to launch with a successful product. But rather than vowing to fix said connectivity issues or fight for their right to be played in China, the team showed off the brand-new desert map, which they claimed would be released alongside version 1.0.

They also announced they plan to release the game on Xbox One on December 12th, meaning that the Christmas season will be very, very busy for fans of the game.

While the two versions wont be identical at first, the gap that separates them should be closed fairly quickly, with the desert map being released for the Xbox One later, but as soon as possible.

Good news? Bad news? Ill let you be the judge. I know most people will just be happy to have a new map to get lag-killed in.
