Has anyone ever noticed how CD Projekt Red, is kind of like Valve, pre-2007? I mean, it used to be that Valve could effortlessly juggle both game development AND managing the world's largest digital retailer for PC Gaming, but, that's changed in the nine years since. Now, Valve barely, if ever, develops games, and focuses almost entirely on hardware development and running Steam. Frustrating for their old fans, sure, but you can't deny it makes the money.
CD Projekt Red, on the other hand, are running GoG, a successful if significantly smaller version of Steam (which I personally enjoy greatly), all while developing The Witcher series, AND working on a mysterious new Cyberpunk thriller called Cyberpunk 2077. They've even got the ol' "good guy" persona Valve USED to have, with a strong aversion to DRM and generally pretty relaxed attitude towards DLC.
Well, taking another step in the direction of cool, GOG has just revealed that they're going to make gaming with them a bit more convenient, especially if you're also gaming on Steam, by making it possible to import certain Steam games to your GOG account. You do this by "linking" your Steam account to your GOG account, which means no matter which account you're on, you can pull up and play a game.
Now, when I say a "certain" Steam games, I mean "very few." Right now the list sits at 22, and while there are some good games on that list (FTL, The Witness, and Saints Row 2)... it's still only 22 games. Still, they promise there'll be more in the future.
It's also worth note that you can only hook up one Steam Account to one GOG account. So, if you have a side-account for smurfing on DOTA 2, you're SOL.
You can read up more on this feature, dubbed GOG Connect, right here. How useful is something like this? Well... it's not USELESS, but I have a hard time imagining there's ever a time you can only access one account and not the other, except, say, if your account is stolen. But in that case, you probably have bigger problems than your BIT.TRIP RUNNER score.
Still, I'll never say no to more options!
