Platinum Games Making New TMNT Game, Rated M?

Darker. Grittier. Edgier-er. Well at least for Leonardo.

Platinum Games is perhaps best known for Bayonetta, the high-octane spectacle-fighter where you play a hyper-sexual (and OWNING it) witch who wears a hair bodysuit and fights with high heels that shoot bullets. And that is easily the tamest, sanest description you could possibly give the franchise. But they’ve also done other games, such as that sub-par Legend of Korra game, and the Metal Gear game that’s somehow canon now.

Well, soon, they’re going to add another game to their growing library, according to NeoGaf watchdogs… and this is a weird one.

The game itself isn’t that weird, granted. Spied on the Australian Classification Board, the ESRB for down under, NeoGaf members saw a game called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan. It’s set to be released on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and last-gen consoles.

Not that strange, really. There’s a lot of TMNT games out there and Platinum games is a good developer for the franchise, considering their history for fast-paced high octane combat. What’s odd is that the game is supposedly rated M, for Mature. You know, the rating we give bloody violent games, not games about cartoon turtles. Now, it is a bit misleading--the Australian ratings for games is both stricter and classified differently, and an Australian M is closer to a T+ over in the states, but still, it's a jump higher than we'd expect from a TMNT game.

We don’t know. We know next to nothing beyond what the NeoGaf members dug up. So we’ll have to wait a bit before we see this possibly gritty new version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
