Yet in the two years since it was announced, despite promises from Platinum games, we’ve learned functionally nothing about it. And that has led many, yours truly included, to wonder if it’s still even a thing.
Well, according to the Babylon’s Fall Twitter account, it is. It’s just… not presentable right now.
“Thank you to all fans who’ve been following along for updates on BABYLON’S FALL. While we hoped to reveal more about the game this summer, ew can share that development on BABYLON’S FALL is continuing to progress well, with the team working safely from home. SQUARE ENIX and Platinum Games are committed to developing an exhilarating experience and we look forward to showcasing much more on BABYLON’S FALL as soon as we can.”
Not a whole lot to work with. I imagine it’s supposed to reassure us that the game hasn’t been canceled, and it kind of has, but game development is a famously fickle thing. It wouldn’t be unorthodox, or even unprecedented, for the game to still be canceled even after a statement like this. Or at least to be taken in a direction so different from the original trailer that it’s functionally unrecognizable.
That said, the only things that really stuck out from the original presentation two years ago was the nifty environmental design and the Souls-like narrative. So if anything else changed, it’s not like we’d ever know.
