A world record was broken over the weekend on Sony’s MMOFPS Planetside 2; over one thousand players teamed up to take part in the biggest FPS battle ever.
Set up by the website Planetside Battles, this community effort smashes the old world record for largest multiplayer FPS battle, which was held by Man Vs Machine. For comparison: the Man Vs Machine match had 999 players participating simultaneously, and crashed after about a minute. This Planetside 2 battle, however, had 1,158 participants, lasted two hours, and ended in a lot more bloodshed.
Some statistics for you:
- Total Streamers: 2,338
- Kills: 53,729
- Team Kills: 3,822
- Bases Captured: 31
- Vehicles Destroyed: 5,089
- Air Vehicles Destroyed: 2,509
- Top Weapon Orion VS54: 3,382 kills
- Top Vehicle Sunderer: 2,041 kills
Some seriously impressive numbers. Sounds like it was a lot of fun, to boot—fortunately, you don’t have to take my word for it; there are a plethora of videos detailing the many fronts of the battle. Hope you enjoy watching a lot of bullets and explosions; which, if you’re American, is a question that answers itself.
I hope there’s another one in the future; it’d be enough to re-download the game for!
