Why, Planetary Annihilation: TITANS of course! Yesterday, the sci-fi-themed RTS Planetary Annihilation has received its first stand-alone expansion. TITANS, which includes the base game, topples on plenty of gravy on mashed taters. So what's included in this smooth, plentiful gravy?
Well, let's find out.
- Five massive Titan-class super units like the rumbling Atlas bot or the crackling Zeus airship. Additionally, there are 16 new units, including the Hover Tanks, Orbital Battleships, and probably the most devastating, Nanobot Swarms.
- New planets that feature multi-level terrain, which is available in both single and multiplayer.
- A new streamlined tutorial that helps players learn the ropes faster.
TITANS introduces new planets, some updates and a whole load of new units. However, the game is still plagued with poor enemy AI and poor pathfinding. My units are unable to work out the shortest route and sometimes simply get stuck. This is an issue that has persisted ever since the alpha, and still has not been completely tackled.
I've also had some problems with placing buildings near walls, where the building's outline suggests the building fits and can be constructed, but my units refusing to do my bidding. Just like kids.
For new users, TITANS should definitely be the way to go, it represents the product - more or less - that EA and KS backers were expecting but never received. Luckily, KS backers can expect to receive TITANS at no additional costs. While EA backers who paid the same price as KS backers are shafted. However, anyone who owns PA before the announcement of TITANS does get a 66% discount. Regardless when you purchased PA.
For those that bought themselves into PA through KS and EA - steer clear. For those looking for a new RTS, get TITANS, as it offers the same and more content as PA.
Hopefully backers and other supporters feel a little more compensated, because those that have purchased the original before August 18, 2015 will be able to purchase TITANS at a 66% discount.
