PewDiePie's Fans Bomb Firewatch's Score on Steam

A firebombing, I guess.

So this is becoming a real epic, huh? It should have a catchy name. FireDie? PewDieWatch? Kinda like that second one, to be honest, but we'll just have to see how much longer this goes before we decide on anything official.

As you've probably guessed, the PewDiePie/Firewatch controversy continues to brew. We've heard from Firewatch developer Campo Santo and their refusal to let PewDiePie play any of their future games, and we've heard the aforementioned YouTuber apologize for his behavior and promise (again) to do better. But there's a third party involved in all of this, the most volatile and possibly dangerous one of the three: PewDiePie's diehard fans. We all knew they would leap to the defense of their favorite YouTuber, so it should be no surprise what their preferred tactic was: Bombing the ever-loving heck out of Firewatch's score on Steam.

Or at least, trying to.

As of writing, Firewatch has 28,695 reviews - a very strong number. And overall, the game enjoys an 86% positive rating on Steam. That's hardly anything to be ashamed of! But if you switch your gaze to the left and you see the recent review section, things become a bit more muddied. The game has been degraded to a "mixed" score, with only 55% of recent reviews being rated as positive.

And while many of the latest negative reviews are coy about the true motivation behind the lackluster scores, many... aren't. Calling the Developer out specifically for being an SJW and attacking their boi PewDiePie. Some are even claiming that the developers are removing negative criticism from their forums and are engaging in "censorship," even though there's absolutely no evidence of that taking place.

In the end, it's not going to be very effective. Anyone who's heard of Firewatch will likely already know of it through positive reviews and good Word-of-Mouth - the game is old enough to have solidified its reputation. But it's one of the few cards the PewDieBros have at their disposal so they're gonna play it, decency be damned.

So far, neither PewDiePie nor Campo Santo has commented on these "attacks."
