People Highlight PETA's Behavior After They Post Elden Ring Tweet

Specifically how they kill a majority of the animals they take in.

When it comes to animals rights, theres no organization more well known (but possibly the least beloved) than PETA. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals also has a history with video game protests. And now, theyre making some remarks with Elden Ring.

PETAs terribly history aside, this one is kinda funny.

Recently, the official PETA Twitter account posted a short video, promoting 5 things to do within the recently released FromSoft game, Elden Ring.

  • Take your dogs for a lovely walk around the lake.
  • Persuade Mercenaries not to exploit horses.
  • Observe Wildlife from a safe and respectable distance.
  • Check out an Animal Sanctuary.
  • Spend a Peaceful Moment with Amazing Animals
The animals in The Lands Between deserve your respect.

On its own, it just sounds like generic advice for being kind to animals. But the gameplay footage provided is in moments of aggression. The dogs for a lovely walk moment, for example, has a pack of dogs attacking the player, while the final remark showed the player being crushed and killed by a giant lobster.

The irony of posting animal activism with a backdrop of violent animals is not lost on us, and we can only hope its not lost on PETA, either. At best, this is a self-aware joke, somewhat making fun of themselves while still bringing awareness to animal rights.

Lets take a brief look at the worst. PETA has a history, a bad one. On the more mild side, they have taken several popular childrens video games like Pokémon and Cooking Mama and created satire copies of these games. These games depict the usually child-friendly character and shows them beaten, bruised, bloody, and sometimes even skinned. Its a mature and brutal representation of what is intended to be family-friendly. More recently, they also called on Nintendo to include "violent insemination" and "rape racks" to the cow milking mini game in 1 2 Switch. If I was a parent, and my children stumbled on these creations, Id be furious.

But let's look at the less mild side. PETA supports the euthanasia of animals, believing that killing abandoned pets is better than attempting to house or rehome them. Reports eventually confirmed that PETA kills between 55% and 75% of the animals they take in, which measures over 40,000 at this point. Many of the folks on Twitter have since responded to the video tweet, pointing this fact out.

The jokes may have been humorous, and generally unoffensive. But PETA is an awful organization. And a good joke doesnt forgive them of that.
