Developer People Can Fly, the folks behind Painkiller, Bulletstorm, and a surprisingly small number of flight simulators (being zero) are folks who seem to want to bring us back to the golden age of shooters when Quake, Doom, and Thork ruled the earth, and regenerating health would have gotten you laughed right out into the streets. That said, they haven’t really accomplished much as of late, it seems. Fortunately, that’s looking to change.
Last we heard from Square Enix, they were dropping Hitman developer IO Interactive, but with a free spot in their developer’s table, it seems they’ve decided to fill that vacancy with, you guessed it, People Can Fly.
We learned that via a press release, and if you were hoping that news of their partnership would be followed with news about what exactly they’re partnering for, well… bad news. There were no such details, just that it will come to PC and consoles, and that it will be “high-end”, whatever that means. Square Enix has assured that the project is still very early in development and most certainly will not be at this month's E3.
How early? Well, by the looks of the People Can Fly website, they’re still hiring people to take roles in the development of this new game. So great news if you’re looking to join their team, but bad news if you’re just excited to see more from the team who worked on the Gears of War PC port.
It’s too early to be excited, but People Can Fly have a pretty damn good track record, all things considered, with no major flops under their belt to worry about. So we’ll be keeping an eye out to see what this project might be, but… we might need to be keeping that eye open for a long, long time. Fingers crossed.
