According to a JPR report, the “global PC Gaming Hardware Market,” which includes both PC’s you buy from the box and the ones you build for yourself using parts you buy separately, made a whole bunch of money last year. Specifically, 30 billion dollars in total.
That’s a lot of cash.
They break it down further. 22 percent of that number, or about 6.6 billion, were spent on entry-level hardware. 35 percent of the total number, or around 10.6 billion, went to middle-range hardware. While the biggest sellers by far, clocking it a 45 percent of all PC hardware sales, went into high-end hardware, with 13.04 billion in total.
Ted Pollak, Senior Game Industry Analyst for JPR, had this to say:
"Global consumers continue to embrace the PC platform for video games due to multiple factors. The desktop ergonomic is popular because the display distance offers increased detail when using HD and UHD monitors. Additionally there is superior control with mouse and keyboard control interfaces. This has been validated with eSports overwhelmingly being played on PCs. Additionally, product designers have given PC gamers thousands of options for complete customization from a functionally and aesthetic perspective.”
So, that’s pretty cool. Not really surprising, considering how many folks have been getting into PC gaming and how underwhelming the console race has been as of late, but it’s cool to see numbers attached to the success of the PC gaming scene.
Good time to be in the business, too.
