Payday 3 is Coming, Just Not Soon

Always feels like forever between paydays, right?

Payday 2, the on-again off-again popular game now owned by Starbreeze, has had a rather rocky road in the past year. While initially extremely popular, things turn a nose-dive when the original developers, Overkill, decided to add microtransactions and pay-to-win elements into the game, which they defended by saying it was a strictly co-op experience anyway so there shouldn’t be any problems with buffed, special skins. People disagreed. Fortunately, Starbreeze removed the microtransactions not soon after the purchase, and now, people are left to wonder what the future of the series is, now that Payday 2 is three and a half years old.

Well, the good news is that Starbreeze isn’t like Valve: they aren’t afraid to count to three. In a recent financial report, Starbreeze reported that Payday 3 was actually currently in development… but not to expect it anytime soon.

"It is with great satisfaction that we also can announce that PAYDAY 3 production is officially initiated and at a full design stage. I'd like to especially clarify, that this project will enjoy as much time as we deem needed. It will be done when it's done. This is our single most important brand today and the cornerstone of our business and we will treat it accordingly. Updates in the near future might be scares and far between. You simply don't rush PAYDAY 3."

We can likely expect more Payday 2 content in the build-up to Payday 3, which is nice. But what I really appreciate is their being forthcoming with the fact that updates in the future will be scares. Makes my job a heck of a lot easier, you know what I mean?

In any case, it seems as if we’re going to be in for a heck of a wait. But at least it’s for the right reasons.
