With the COVID-19 vaccine being distributed in heartwarming numbers all around the country, it’s not hard to imagine a future where things are back to normal is just on the horizon. In spite of this, caution and patience are still very much needed right now, because despite seeing the light at the end of the tunnel… we’re still in the tunnel, y’know?

Thus, companies and conventions that had, in the past, been hesitant to close or postpone their events are much more open to the idea at present, which is why it comes as little surprise that PAX East, one of the major gaming conventions on the east coast, has announced that its June 3-6th convention will be postponed by a month. Not a huge pause, but hopefully long enough to ensure everyone who plans to attend has had their shot, and have been able to stay home long enough to work through any mild symptoms that may occur from it.

From a short but sweet press release:

While we hoped PAX East could safely take place, we remained realistic and did not sell any tickets or space to exhibitors to avoid significantly inconveniencing our friends and partners. As we have shown via our actions throughout the pandemic, our utmost concern is the safety of the PAX family — from attendees, exhibitors, and show staff to media and content creators — as well as the local communities that host our celebrations of all things gaming. We will only move forward with a live PAX once we are confident the show will be safe for everyone.

ReedPop and Penny Arcade will continue to monitor the situation surrounding COVID-19, observe government guidelines and local laws, and defer to health officials and experts on what is deemed safe.

I think we’re all a little overexcited at the notion of gathering in crowds again, even at the risk of inhaling the scent of sweat and dried cheese powder. Still, I think this is a smart decision, and I hope it means that everyone that goes can do so without fear of the pandemic.

We’re almost there, people. Just hold the line.
