All is well in the Mushroom Kingdom. Princess Peach has sent invitations to Mario and Luigi for their upcoming origami festival. But something seems off. Was she always that... folded? King Olly, the ruler of the Origami Kingdom has invaded, taking control of the castle and forcing his reign over the land. The Mustached hero but venture out again to save the place he calls home.
Nick Chavez, Nintendo of Americas Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing had this to say in a press release:
Paper Mario: The Origami King delivers a grand new adventure on Nintendo Switch for players to wrap themselves up in. This game marks the debut of the Paper Mario series on Nintendo Switch, expanding the vast library of games with another standout entry in a beloved franchise.
Like in the past games, Mario will make use of a range of tools and abilities to help him reach his goal. One new skill, for example, is the 1000-Fold Arms, which allows the player to pull, stretch, and peel away at the environment, revealing secrets and new pathways.
Mario will also enlist the help of a team of unique characters, such as Olivia, the King's kind-hearted sister, and none other than a defeated King Bowser.
But what's a new Paper Mario without a change to how battles work (whether you like it or not)? The Origami King features a new ring-based battle system. The new format "lets you flex your puzzle-solving skills to line up scattered enemies and maximize damage." Based on video footage, it appears that the player can rotate various rings around him, relocating enemies as needed.
Paper Mario: The Origami King will release on the Nintendo Switch on July 17 for $59.99. You can pre-purchase the game now on the Nintendo eShop. For more information, visit the official website for Paper Mario: The Origami King.
