Paladins Announces Upcoming Battle Royale Mode

The popular free-to-play hero shooter Paladins has been called the poor man's Overwatch ever since its release. Now it's looking to become the low-cost alternative to another big name in gaming. Paladins have announced a new battle royale mode, called Battlegrounds, and it is due to release later this year.

Paladins: Battlegrounds takes 100 players and places them on a map that developer Hi-Rez claims to be "300 times" larger than a normal siege map. Players are grouped together into squads and are tasked with eliminating all other squads while searching for loot to help augment their success. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Paladins aren't the first to try and emulate what made PUBG famous. Fortnite, the building/survival game by Epic Games, recently implemented a similar mode called Fortnite: Battle Royale. Fortnite received a touch of controversy for what could be seen as bandwagons on the battle royale train. Warface added their own battle royale mode in November, though it received considerably less attention. So far what these games had going for them was the fact that it is free, compared to the paid price of PUBG.
