So today's Invitational tournament put on by Nintendo was a "smash success" (sorry, just punch me in the face now)- and with both Reggie Fils-Aime and Sakurai taking the stage to a roaring crowd... you would think that might be a good time to reveal some more Smash Bros characters in addition to Palutena and Mii that were announced this morning. Then again, last year they made journalists line up at their booth just to announce Wii Fit Trainer. So in typical weird Nintendo fashion... Pac-Man was announced during a press only Smash Bros roundtable where photography and video wasn't allowed.
Many people saw this character coming (myself included) mostly because Namco is co-developing the game. It was still rather unexpected to announce such a major character to little fanfare... but hey... Nintendo will be Nintendo. Pac-Man looks to have a very fun moveset that even incorporates elements from other classic Namco titles. Mr. Game and Watch was also casually confirmed at the end of the trailer. We're still missing some series regulars like Captain Falcon... so hopefully they are keeping a few characters as a surprise. Afterall they've gone all day without even officially confirming the already leaked Miyamoto Star Fox game... Nintendo must be feeling pretty damn confident right now.
Gotta admit... pretty cool to see Sonic, Mario, MegaMan, and Pac-Man all duking it out.
Here is both the Pac-Man and Palutena trailers-
