Owlboy, the beautifully-pixelated 2D RPG, will be coming to retail locations.
Created by indie developer D-Pad Studio, Owlboy is a platform-adventure game that gained a reputation for its long development cycle. Development began in 2007 and wasn't released until November 2016.
Owlboy is set in the floating lands in the sky brought from the world breaking apart below. The player controls a boy/owl named Otus, who is of an owl-human hybrid race. When Otus' village is attacked by a band of pirates, he does what he can to rescue them. Otus is capable of flying as well as carrying objects around that he can move about or even throw at enemies. Throughout the game, Otus gains friends that join him in his quest, each with their own weapon and abilities.
With scores ranging from 8-10 out of 10 from all the top critics, Owlboy is one of the best indie games on the market. The announcement that it will be coming to retail locations in the future means great things for the game. Talk of a console port being made have been discussed and rumored for years, and while this is a huge indicator of that, it's not said which consoles it will be coming to.
Update: Owlboy will release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch on February 13, 2018. Look forward to it!
