Overwatch's New Update Attempts to Make Losing Streaks Less Punishing

Overwatch is a very competitive game, and like all games of the competitive nature, losing streaks can be just as common as winning streaks. Casual play can be very relaxing and enjoyable since there's no need to worry about your statistics while ranked play can get pretty stressful, especially when you're on a losing streak. Overwatch's ranked system has a streak multiplier which changes skill rating based on consecutive wins or losses.

Before Overwatch's recent update, this streak multiplier was very good to players who won consecutively, but rather frustrating for players who happened to be on a losing streak, like we've all been before. While the ranked system tries to set up the most evenly-skilled teams possible, that isn't always the case. You're bound to get some rather one-sided matches, and if you're on the losing end, the streak multiplier isn't very forgiving.

Blizzard has made some changes to the streak multiplier that intends to make the system less aggressive. Players will now need to win or lose more consecutive matches for it to have an impactful effect to their skill ranking. While this does make losing streaks less punishing, it also makes winning streaks less rewarding. It definitely isn't a perfect solution, but it's definitely a good move forward. This change definitely makes consecutive losses less frustrating but players can't expect to rise through the ranks as fast and easily as they previously could. Perfect changes are pretty rare in a competitive game like Overwatch, but if anyone can pull off a perfect game, its definitely Blizzard.

Along with this step in the right direction, this new update adds the new PVE mode, and some awesome new skins, emotes, highlight intro's, player icons, voice lines and sprays. Check out more information on Overwatch's new seasonal event here.
