Overwatch's Holiday Brawl Fails to Compare

It's a diet snowball fight.

Blizzard's Overwatch is currently having its third event. Like the others, the holiday event has its own collection of seasonal goodies. The highlight of each previous event has been the special brawl. The Summer Games had Lucioball. Halloween had the co-op event, Junkenstein's Revenge. And for the holiday season? The winter holiday brawl, which is Mei's Snowball Offensive. This time, two teams consisting of six Meis have a snowball fight. You can still put up ice walls and surround yourself in a protective ice barrier. The biggest change is in Mei's attacks. Instead of her typical kit, she throws a single snowball from her gun. After that, she has to find a snowpile and reload. It goes without saying that the snowball is a one-hit kill. And, unfortunately, the whole thing kinda blows.

Low-octane snorefest.

It's sad to admit, but it's true. There's absolutely no excitement in Mei's Snowball Offensive. And don't get me wrong, that hurts to say. Mei is one of my all-time favorite characters. I want nothing more than to adore her brawl. The problem is mostly in the one-shot snowball. Instead of being a tense, high-octane experience like Lucioball and Junkenstein's Revenge, it just feels boring and frustrating. Upon making Overwatch in the first place, Blizzard understood that picking up ammo was a pain in the ass, so they took it out of the original game. So why did they think it would be a good idea now? I can't say for sure. Regardless, their track record with seasonal brawls is still pretty great. But if Blizzard doesn't learn from Mei's Snowball Offensive, they may not keep that record for very long.
