Overwatch's Bastion Set for Upcoming Buff

Here's hoping they don't break anything.

Bastion has had a rocky start in Overwatch. At first, he was incredibly overpowered. The earliest builds of the game gave the omnic a shield and a license to pretty much wipe teams out by himself. After a quick nerf, he was still a pretty big problem. He could wipe out any player in his sentry mode turret. That's what happens when you combine pinpoint accuracy and no spread with insane damage. However, players adapted quickly to the beast and figured out half of the roster can take him out pretty easily. After figuring that out, Bastion pretty much saw very little play.

Blizzard intends on fixing that. Right now, they are working on a complete rework of Bastion to make him viable again. If that sound familiar, that's because it is. They did the same thing to Symmetra when they saw players avoided her except on very specific situations. The Bastion rework has been rumored for a while now, but recently, Blizzard's Geoff Goodman posted on the Overwatch forums to confirm the idea.

Check out the full quote from Geoff Goodman below.

Here are some high level stuff we're likely to have testable in the next PTR:

Recon Mode - Lowered spread and increased magazine size, to help with general viability in this mode.

Sentry Mode - We're looking at focusing this mode into more of a tank-buster and barrier-buster mode, while also making it feel less suicidal to be transformed. To that end we're testing stuff like increased spread and removing headshots, but taking less damage while transformed.

Self-Repair - We've been testing a few big changes to this that are feeling really good so far. Currently our internal build has Bastion able to use Self-Repair while moving and also having it no longer interrupted when taking damage. To balance that out it is now on a resource system (similar to the route D.Va's defense matrix went). These changes have turned this ability from a more niche rarely used ability, to a much more powerful and core survivability tool.

We're still testing and tweaking things with Bastion but we'll hopefully have a PTR build coming fairly soon so you guys can try it out!

I'm a little wary of this upcoming change. Symmetra's rework worked really well. In fact, it worked so incredibly well that she can decimate an enemy team. And she was never that useful to begin with. Now, they are taking a character with prior reputation for being broken and giving him a significant buff. Only time will tell for sure, but I'm definitely cautious about what's to come.
