They snuck it past us! The new update to Overwatch, including competitive season 2 and a new map, was supposed to launch fully on September 6th. But Blizzard quietly applied it on Thursday, nearly a full week early! Those of you who haven't been digging into the PTR trenches can give the new content a spin on your own local servers.

Tell it like it is, Kaplan.

The update makes a few changes to the competitive mode. First of all, and most excitingly, sudden death is in the garbage. Good riddance. Secondly, the ranking is not only stretched to 5,000 instead of 100, but it is also separated into different tiers.

There are more changes joining the fight as well. Eichenwalde, the new map, is set in a medieval-style German town and features a hybrid mission. Also, several characters were tweaked a bit. Hanzo, Mercy, and Mei got some a much needed buff, while Genji got controversially hit with the nerfing stick (and hard, too). So it may take you a minute or so to get the hang of some of the changes.
