Overwatch is coming out soon, and while we’ve gotten a heaping helping of information about the gameplay via the demos and a very excited team over at Blizzard, there’s one thing that’s been missing--information about plot. After all, among gamers, Blizzard is well known not only for being the developer behind some of the medium’s most iconic IP’s, like Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, ect… but also for being a developer who enriches these IP’s with intricate, beautiful stories and worlds that put some universes to shame.

Well, we had known already that Overwatch wouldn’t shy away from story or plot, and we had a pretty good idea how they’d deliver it as well--but we had yet to see any fruit borne from these little seeds of information. Much in the same way the game was introduced, via one of Blizzard’s famously well-rendered trailers, the game’s story will now be introduced to us in the same way.

It’s time for--the prologue, otherwise known as “Recall”!

As you can see, this trailer shows us that the world is in strife, Overwatch-whatever it was and/or is-has been made illegal, and that Blizzard’s writers really need to work on their dialogue. I mean, I get that this is a talking gorilla and an AI, but Winston supposed to be a scientist, so chemistry should come more naturally to him.

Bah, but I guess I’m just nitpicking. It does its job, kind of, and we get to see baby space gorillas, which is never a waste of time. So enjoy it--and we’ll look forward to more shorts in the future!
