Honor is something that is lacking when it comes to competitive shooter games. To be completely honest, I've killed my fair share of AFK players across many games, and I've never really felt bad about it. Not even once. I've never played any game at a professional level, so you can imagine how honorable of a person it takes to spare an AFK enemy in the professional scene. Well, in the most recent Team Liquid vs EnVyUs match during this weekend's HND Overwatch Invitational, a Genji player by the name of "shadder2k" took mercy on a lagging opponent (no I don't mean the hero "mercy).

Shadder2k is one of the best Genji players in the professional Overwatch community and he can easily dispatch of low health enemies, especially when they are unaware. In a pretty bizarre video, we see that shadder2k spares the other team's Soldier 76 because he appears to be either lagging or AFK for a brief moment. Shadder2k could have easily killed Lui (EnVyUs's Soldier 76), but he decided to do the honorable thing, and spare his life. Sparing an enemy because of connection issues in a professional competition, with so much on the line, is pretty much unheard of. Shadder2k must be a pretty nice guy, though sadly, being nice doesn't win tournaments.

EnVyUs would go on to win the match against Team Liquid 2 to 1. It very well could have been Shadder2k's moment of mercy that lost them the match, but nobody can know for certain. While the commentators completely missed Shadder2k's honorable decision, the stream chat was going crazy, commemorating Shadder2k for his good deed. While Shadder2k may have won over the fans, he could have cost his team the match. Maybe Shadder2k was gone a little too far with his Genji roleplaying, or maybe he truly is one with Genji. After all, Genji is love, Genji is life.
