“We worked extremely hard to get Competitive Play in the game for Closed Beta. We've been reading feedback from the community and taking it all to heart. As a result, we've temporarily disabled Competitive Play for Open Beta so that we can rework the system and make it better.
Our plan is to bring back a newly re-designed version of Competitive Play sometime after Overwatch launches.
Thanks for all of the feedback, and thank you for being patient with us while we work to improve the game!”
This might come to a surprise to some, given how Blizzard always seems to have a tight lock on competitive modes (just about every game they make is an eSport in some capacity or another), but a lot of closed beta fans were complaining on how ‘grindy’ the competitive mode felt, and how it seemed more like they were testing a player's patience more than their skill. And that’s really more of a Hearthstone/League of Legends thing.
Still. It’s questionable if the competitive mode will return before the open beta ends, but I think we can all agree that a good competitive mode, if late, is better than a bad, on-time one.
So that’s swell.
