Since its launch, I have played Overwatch and uncomfortable number of hours. I have died in every way possible and have been forced to watch it twice (three times if it got play of the game). I have met a wide variety of people through my career at attacking and defending points and payloads. And while many of them differed between favorite characters, preferred tactics, and go-to insults, there was one thing that everyone agreed with. McCree's stupid damn flash bang/fan the hammer combo can go to hell, along with his stupid hat! From the Beta to yesterday and every single day between, players have complained that McCree was far too overpowered. Oddly enough, today is the first day I haven't heard such complaints. There's a very good reason for that.
That day, high noon came and went, but no one noticed
The meat of the image is the top half. Blizzard had already commented on the complaints, telling us change was coming. However, they slid it in quietly today. The biggest point of the Overwatch patch is McCree's alternate fire (fan the hammer) has been reduced. Originally, each bullet did 70 damage. With full ammo, that meant 420 damage, and that's assuming there were no head shots. Seeing as how the highest health for the meatiest tank is around 600, McCree was able to do tank-shattering damage with no cooldown. Now, he can still wipe the floor with squishy opponents, but he can no longer take a tank down single handedly.
Widowmaker's changes came as a bit of a surprise to me. I understand that, in the right hands, a good Widowmaker could break a team. However, that seemed to rarely affect games I played in. Then again, perhaps this was Blizzard's way of proactive changes. Nerfing the sniper before people started getting enough training with her to run the field. Regardless, the changes are a welcome sight. Overwatch has already taken its place as a beloved game. These patches will help make sure our attention is held for a very long time.
