When a game creates a visual style that has never been done before, that's always impressive... and when done by a small indie developer- that's always even more impressive. Cuphead was first announced earlier this year, but managed to sneak itself into Microsoft's E3 press conference (even though it was a brief glimpse).

Cuphead is a run and gun 2d co-op platformer with visuals inspired by 1930's cartoons and an emphasis on boss battles (with 30 bosses currently planned). While PC was the target platform originally, the game is making the leap to Xbox similarly to the other beautiful 2d platformer- Ori and the Blind Forest. Both of the games are built on the ever popular Unity engine, which makes console porting a game much easier these days.

Besides looking different, the game is also planning to break many of the many conventional run and gun traditions- infinite lives, you don't lose your acquired weapons on death, and even super attacks. Perhaps the thing I appreciate the most about the game is the animators are all animating by hand using light tables. Cuphead was originally scheduled to come out this year, but has been pushed back to 2015.
