Over-the-Shoulder Pose Officially Replaced

And there was much rejoicing.

So you remember that over-the-shoulder ‘butt pose’ from Overwatch that had been the subject of so much controversy for whatever reason? Well. Blizzard had removed the pose some time ago, siding with the people who had been saying that said the pose over-sexualized Tracer, which isn’t Blizzard’s job: it’s a job for rule 34 artists and fans of yellow spandex. But when it was removed, it came with the promise that Blizzard would replace it with something even better, that matches Tracer’s personality more and would hopefully satisfy people in both sides of the ‘debate’.

Since the controversy, we’ve had the Heroes of the Storm update, a new video co-starring tracer and her sexually charged counterpart, and lots, and lots, and lots of jokes made at Blizzard’s expense from the entire ordeal.

But now, it’s finally over. Not only has Blizzard gotten rid of the butt pose, in an update yesterday, they also replaced it with a brand new pose that has the best of both worlds: it’s way more in-character for tracer, but it’s still got plenty of butt-action for the people who were sincerely upset about the lack of proper rear fixation. So, let me be the first to introduce to you: the brand new OVER THE SHOULDER… which… is actually in the header so you saw it already.

Granted, you might have recognized it anyway. This new victory pose was doubtlessly inspired by some vintage art, as Twitter user BooDoo points out:

Still, I say it’s a nice compromise. Maybe not enough to make anyone happy, since by and large people hate compromise, but this new and improved over-the-shoulder is likely going to stay… and hopefully, we can move on from this... and start a controversy over something else stupid and inane.
