I never generally miss a chance to report on the Ouya. I always feel it's a nice change of pace from the usual reports on PC and console gaming, that and I genuinely pity the poor thing. It was so popular not so long ago, and it had the world so excited by what it could do, and a combination of a less-then-stellar controller and only delivering what it promised (people had higher expectations than it was designed to deliver) meant the Ouya would never be as popular in practice as it was in theory. And boy, they tried to get better games and get more attention, but their efforts were for naught and their in financial trouble and their co-founder already jumped ship.
And now, things seem to have reached the critical point for the lil console that couldn't. They are no longer looking for investors, but rather, if these reports are accurate, they just want to sell themselves completely now.
According to sources close to the situation, the Ouya is currently in talks with companies like, Amazon, Google and several Chinese companies for a full buy-out. While there is a chance its soliciting for investors, the sources claim it is much, much more likely that the Ouya is simply trying to get itself sold.
And if you're wondering why any company would be interested in such a lackluster console they're not. The sources claim they want to sell the Ouya team, to get them working on other projects within those American and Chinese companies considering rumors of Amazon producing its own Android console, it would make sense they might be interested in the experience of the Ouya people. As for the Ouya itself unless a buying company was interested in it, it's more than likely that the console would be disposed.
Mind, these are all from unnamed sources within the company. Ouya itself has withheld from comment, so there's no way to be sure exactly what's happening. It seems unlikely they'd say anything before papers are signed and the motions begin, but if this is true it could be the final toll for the Ouya.
You dreamed big, little box but it takes more than dreams to survive this crazy world.
