New setting. New characters. Same universe. Outlast 2 intends to give players a brand new experience while still handing out heart attacks like the original. The first Outlast game attracted a lot of attention for its unsettling style. The style can best be described as, "Oh my god, it's so dark! My nightvision camera is almost out of battery! What's that noise?! Oh my god, run! Run! Hide! Call an ambulance!"
Looks like more of the same here
While those basics of gameplay seem to have stuck around, the biggest difference is seen in the setting. Tight corridors and lonely rooms have taken a far backseat to open fields, footpaths, and cornfields. The protagonist starts the game after a helicopter crash, leaving him lost and searching for his wife. Another difference comes with the character himself. No more silent protagonists for Outlast 2. Our persona will often make his thoughts known as a way to help move the plot forward. Also, the camera now includes a sound sensor, not only letting you know how much noise you're making, but when something else is making a noise and from which direction. The game still focuses on exploring, running, hiding, and camera batteries. One last thing that was hinted at is the idea that the camera starts beeping at low batteries. And more than the player may notice.
There is no exact release date, but the target is to have it out sometime around the holidays of 2016.
