Today, February 22, 2019, is the 6 year anniversary of Old School RuneScape! And to celebrate, the developers are hosting a big birthday party and launching a new series of quality of life updates.

The Party

Taking place beneath the Falador Party Room, in the underground museum, is a showcase of exhibitions, each focusing on a major update over the last year. A number of popular and familiar characters will be in attendance as well.

The party also pays homage to one of the game's oldest quests. The Cook from Lumbridge Castle has visited Falador and he needs someone to help him with a new dish.

Theres a cake in it for you. A big one.

Visiting the party will also unlock all the items and emotes from previous years birthday celebrations.

Updates

For something a bit more long-lasting than a party, developers Jagex are also pushing some new updates and changes to the game. This will be the final round of updates to what they were referring to as the Quality of Life Combat and Skilling polls.
  • Changing magic weapons with the same spell selections will now retain previously chosen spells for auto casting.
  • Combat styles that share a category will remember what style you use between weapon swapping.
  • Auto-enchanting option now available, will enchant the next item of the same type automatically when enabled.
  • Automatic options are also available for creating Serum 207, filling watering cans, and splitting coconuts with a hammer.
  • Fossil and Ancient Wyverns now drop Volcanic Ash upon death.
  • Volcanic ash now scales to your mining level when mined. This ranges from 1 ash at level 22 mining to 6 ash at once with max level.
  • Gricoller's watering can can be filled with any watering source instead of paying Farmer Gricoller to do it.
  • Rings of forging are now available to free players and can be bought from other players.
If you're interested in getting back into Old School RuneScape again, perhaps the mobile version of the game is more convenient for you. It's available now on iOS and Android for free.
