Are you a child, or an adult who can borrow one for an evening? Do you live in Dallas, Texas, or anywhere in the area? Do you have a unquenchable desire for virtual reality that old stereoscopes and hand-me-down Virtual Boys simply cant quench? Well, congratulations, the one person who fits these specifications, an opportunity of a lifetime is waiting for you at Chuck E. Cheese!
Launching later this month (so sometime this or next week), a single Chuck E. Cheese location in Dallas, Texas will be hosting a six-week trial period with the Oculus Rift, where children (and adults) with birthday parties scheduled for that time will get to play Chuck E. Cheeses Virtual Ticket Blaster, a special game designed specifically for the Childrens Entertainment Venue by Reel FX.
Reel FX, who works in partnership with Chuck E. Cheese, has been a long-time supporter of the Oculus Rift, ever since it was introduced as a kickstarter campaign two years ago, saying it was the future of the gaming industry. It also makes a weird sort of sense that Chuck E. Cheese would be so invested in gaming technologies, considering its founder, Nolan Bushnell, was also the guy responsible for the granddaddy of all gaming, the Atari.
While a customer edition of the Oculus Rift continues to elude the hungry hands of an overeager public (Predictions put the release sometime early next year) the Oculus rift is still creating quite a buzz in the gaming world, particularly with all the Dev kits floating around and some early support from Valve and CCP Games.
You've seen EvE Valkyrie, right?
It was the first game really sold me on the concept of a VR headset...
I imagine this trial run will excite more than a few gamers (and a lot of their kids are about to get their birthday party early) but remember you actually have to have a child to go into a Chuck E. Cheese, so, no storming the place without bringing one along. Just be sure to return it where you found it when youre done.
