The Oculus Rift has some really cool new technology in it. Previously, VR headsets needed to run at a 90fps minimum. Anything below this would create a poor experience for the headset user. Normally, getting a computer that can run at 90fps while playing a high quality game can be quite expensive. Oculus is now cutting this minimum in half.
Thanks to the brand new Spacewarp program, the new Oculus will be able to automatically create synthetic frames to replace dropped ones. It will analyze the previous couple of frames, take head motion into account, and fill in a proper frame to aid your experience. This now means that PC's that can run games at 45fps will be able to use a VR with very few issues!
Here is a list of the new minimum specs:
- Graphics card: NVIDIA 960 or greater
- Processor: Intel i3-6100 / AMD FX4350 or greater
- Memory: 8GB+ RAM
- Output: Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
- Input: 1x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0 ports
- OS: Windows 8 or newer
Hopefully everybody that wants a VR headset is able to play games at 45 frames. If not, you might have to wait a little longer before the minimum drops again. As for right now, I think the 45 fps requirement isn't bad at all! Before you buy a VR headset, please take precaution and be aware of the
risk factors that come along with it.
