Octopath Traveler Devs Suggest Digital Downloads in Midst of Physical Shortage

Octopath Traveler, the Square Enix RPG for the Nintendo Switch, has sold extremely well since it launched a little over a week ago. It's been selling a bit too well, selling out in hours multiple times in Japan.

When it formally launched on July 13, Japanese supplies sold out within hours. The developers did their best to rectify this shortage with a second sudden shipment. Though this shipment sold out in under three hours as well. The game's developers have now acknowledged this shortage and are suggesting players download the digital version instead.

The apology comes from the official Octopath Twitter account, translated from Japanese:

"I am sorry that the situation of shortage continues. We will continue to ship carefully so that we can deliver a sufficient number, but we are expecting that the number of shipping recently will be considerably fewer. I am sorry to have kept you waiting. We hope that you will be able to consider the download version if you do not mind."

Fortunately, the lack of stock appears to be limited to just Japan, a refreshing change of pace from the usual shortages from Nintendo (unless you count the Amazon shortages, as, at the time of this writing, the next shipment won't even be available until July 28). So you American RPG enthusiasts are likely in the clear.
