Obsidian Entertainment has been hard at work on their own game, a first-person RPG called The Outer Worlds. But in their haste, they may have accidentally leaked their own release date ahead of time.
The game's official Steam page recently updated, adding new information. This was supposed to be info like language support, but it also included a release date, set at August 6. Not long after this, it was updated again, replacing the date with a generic "2019."
Obsidian has yet to comment on an official release date, but the shortly-appearing date seems plausible. That's right around the holiday season, when all of the biggest publishers save their best games, after all. We could speak about the shorter storyline or the focus on a linear campaign over the more open-world content the developers are known for. But to say anything about these in regards to development time would be nothing more than speculation.
There's no doubt that we will hear more about The Outer Worlds in the coming months, probably in June with the E3 2019 conferences. Who knows, maybe they'll also take a jab or two at Bethesda to earn some brownie points with the internet.
