One of the biggest pulls the game had this year was that ALL playable fighters in the past games will be playable in Ultimate. Absolutely all of them. The level of total inclusion was shocking to many, though well embraced. designer Sakurai stated that he didn't want to exclude anyone this time around. This rule doesn't apply to the stages, however. This is clarified (somewhat) in an interview with Nate Bihldorff and Bill Trinen by Famitsu.
"Not all past stages are going to be in the game but a whole lot of them will."
Don't fret just yet. This doesn't mean that your favorite stage is barred from entry. Well, it might mean that, there's no guarantee. But until its confirmed or not, I'm hoping out hope that we'll see PokeFloats in glorious HD.
The same interview also confirmed that Sakurai will be handling the game balancing. They did not clarify whether this meant he will be the sole individual working on it, or whether Namco Bandai will be assisting him, as they did with Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate will release on Nintendo Switch on December 7 of this year.
