You see, in addition to the IP, the 150 individual titles, and other rights Nordic gained from THQ, it ALSO got the rights to its trademark, THQ. And in a surprise reveal last Friday, Nordic revealed it would be re-dubbing itself THQ Nordic, adding the now-defunct publisher's name to its own. Why? Well, the company had this to say in a press release:
"Whilst we take great pride in our Swedish roots and accomplished a great deal under the Nordic Games masthead, we decided it was time to incorporate the THQ name. Those key brands will continue to shape our business in a meaningful way going forward, and THQ Nordic represents a core approach of doing much more than "owning" a highly competitive portfolio of IPs. We cherish them, and align them with the very best development resources to expand upon them with the level of experience that communities and established fan bases expect and deserve."
They continued to say that they have 23 game projects in the work, while only ten of them have been revealed to the public, so apparently they have a lot going on under the hood... which, theoretically, we'll be hearing more about at Gamescom next week. So, we have that to look forward to!
Let's find out what this new Nordic can do, shall we?
