No Witcher 4 Doesn't Mean the End of the Games

It's a big world with a lot of stories...

CD Projekt Red has been in the news a lot lately, celebrating its massive success even while keeping an eye firmly on the future, and the eventual release of Cyberpunk 2077. And while CD Projekt Red has made it abundantly clear that the Witcher 3 is going to be the final game of the trilogy… they recently revealed in a 2016 financial results review that they might be willing to revisit the world of the Witcher, even if there’s never going to be a Witcher 4.

And no, I’m not just talking about Gwent. Here’s what CDP President Adam Kicinski had to say when asked about the prospect of making another Wticher game:

"The Witcher was designed as a trilogy and a trilogy can not have the fourth part, can it? [But] we like this world a lot, we invested 15 years of our lives in it and a lot of money. So we'll think about [it]."

So, if there was another Witcher game, having it star The Witcher himself, Geralt, seems unlikely. That said, there are a host of other characters in the world, such as Triss, Yennifer, and Ciri, who would excel as stars of their own games. It could also be an entirely new story set in an entirely separate part of the universe, the Witcher is nothing if not expansive, they could shuttle themselves off to some far away land and present a new cast of characters that could steal your heart and have sex on stuffed mythical creatures.

Needless to say, that would be a great plan, if the company just wanted more money: it’s safe to assume that anything they produce, especially in the Witcher universe, is going to get a lot of attention and love from the community around them. But, as with most things, only time will tell.
