That might seem a bit hyperbolic, but when EA starts attacking my #1 boy, the Switch, I get defensive.
Here’s the story: during a recent investors call, there were some investors who were curious why the Sims, an extremely casual, chill game, wasn’t coming out for the most casual, chill console currently on the market, the Switch.
And this was CEO Andrew Wilson’s response:
"Any time we’re evaluating platform conversations, we are really looking at a couple of things. One, does the game really fit the profile of that platform in terms of the control or the community ecosystem? Two, do we think the community playing on that platform would appreciate the game to go there? Or would they prefer to play it somewhere else?"
He argued that since most Switch owners have other consoles (which apparently comes from internal data), those people would generally prefer to play games on those consoles, rather than the Switch. He also argued that the Switch was not equipped to handle all the user-made content for the Sims, that one could argue is the cornerstone of it’s existence.
The first point, of course, is hogwash. At least for me, the Switch is by far my favorite console, more so than my PC or my PS4, and the only reason I would pick up a game for the PC instead of the Switch is because of mod support. Which makes the latter point fair enough I guess.
Still, this isn’t about my taste. The news is: don’t expect a Switch version of the Sims any time soon.
