No Man's Sky news again, you say? Yes, well, it's been a spree, as of late. While there's certainly other news going on in the world, it only seems fair that if No Man's Sky was going to take so much of our collective attention before launch, it should get every bit of much post launch, and as it so happens most of the news that comes out of it happens to be negative, so, that simply cannot be helped.
In this case, the problem isn't with misplaced promises or anything similar, rather, it seems No Man's Sky has got a bug, a very specific bug that targets its most ardent supporters specifically: namely, a bug affecting a ship you got for pre-ordering the game.
As reported by Kotaku, when you normally start the game, you have to undergo a series of short quests to get the blueprints for both the engine and the fuel you need to hyper-drive across the universe and make your way for the center. However, if you pre-order the game, you start with a ship that automatically has a hyper-drive engine installed: a convenient way to skip some tedium in the early game, right?
Well, maybe not. Because apparently, by not doing that quest, you don't have access to the blueprint that lets you make fuel: so you can fly some ways into the universe only to become stranded when you have no way to refuel your ship's engines--forcing you to re-start the game and do the opening series of quests ANYWAY.
Now, it's not a 'perfect' bug. People have reported that there are ways around it: you can buy the fuel, for example, or stumble into a ship that has the engine and fuel you need. Or, you can just keep buying other people's ships and hop your way across the galaxy. Still, it's kind of funny that such a specific bug would exist, punishing people for trying to support the game at its earliest stages.
That said, Hello Games has been very responsive and reactive to player issues so far, so it's only going to be a matter of time before they release a fix. You can bet on that--heck, they've already commented on it.
So, worry not, travelers--you'll get your fix, soon.
