Before the release of No Man's Sky it was heavily debated whether or not the game would become one of the best space simulators of its time. It was going up against Star Citizen, and I think we know who the winner is here. Well, hopefully. If Star Citizen flops like No Man's Sky (which I doubt will happen), then I think the entire space genre should just be abandoned by developers for the next 10-15 years. Anyway, that's some content for another article.
Right now, Gareth Bourn is working for Foundry 42, which is the company behind Squadron 42. If you don't know what Squadron 42 is, it's basically a single player module for Star Citizen. It was supposed to be released in 2016, but ended up getting delayed until 2017. The game will be a 3 part series, so two more chapters will be coming after the release of the first game. Since it has been in production for so long, Bourn might not be working on the first game. They may have picked him up to start working on the next two installments.
Hopefully Bourn can come out and help make a much more successful title here. No Man's Sky was far from being a hit and it would look pretty good for his career if he turned things around quickly. Apparently Foundry 42 made him an incredible offer to come work for them, so I can't really blame him for leaving. At this point, he probably would have left No Man's Sky behind if he was offered a McDouble and a medium fry.
