That's right, folks. No Man's Sky VR is coming.
The update was announced at the State of Play, a digital broadcast held by Sony to promote their upcoming games and projects. Think Nintendo Direct, but Sony. The update is the second part of a three-part mega update to the game, dubbed No Man's Sky Beyond. The first part was revealed earlier this month under the name of No Man's Sky Online. Little was expanded on for what this means exactly, but game designer and Hello Games frontman Sean Murray calls it "a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together."
No Man's Sky VR is more than just a viewing port, Murray explained in an email to UploadVR. It will contain new, interactive functionality to make the VR experience a more engaging one.
No Mans Sky Virtual Reality is not a separate mode, but the entire game brought to life in virtual reality. Anything that is possible in No Mans Sky, NEXT or any other update is ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience.
[The update], like all the parts of Beyond, will be free to existing players. However, were excited to announce that the release of Beyond will see an exclusive retail release of the game on PlayStation 4. This physical edition will come with the base game, VR support, and every update so far, including Beyond.
Murray also confirmed that the update will be releasing on PlayStation 4 for the PSVR, as well as Steam VR. Players can use the same save files between regular and VR mode.
No Man's Sky VR mode will release as a free update some time this summer.
The game sure has come a long way since its ill-received release in 2016. As a long time fan of both No Man's Sky and VR, I couldn't be more excited for this update.
