But while most of us have moved on to better, newer games, No Man's Sky continues to have a dedicated community of explorers who enjoy it, and they've been reaping the benefits of Hello Game's attempts to repent for their sins. Say what you want about their shady marketing, they've proven they certainly care enough about their players to try to make things right. And while their latest patch, Pathfinder, added a whole bunch of new content to the game, like ground vehicles and shareable bases, their next big patch is looking to change the game in amazing new ways.
Not that we know anything beyond that, but a promise is still a promise.
The source of this info comes from an ARG that Hello Games has been running as of late, which has seen players finding and trying to use 180 Access ID's to unlock some type of prize... a build-up to something that's hopefully better than reaching the center of the galaxy. The other day, Hello Games released a PDF that included a thanks for everyone playing, and a promise for "big things to come" in August, otherwise known as the 1-year anniversary of the game's launch.
"We want to extend our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the Mercury Subroutine so far. We hope you have enjoyed the successful distribution of 180 Access IDs, and we hope you will also appreciate the other interesting artifacts we have in store for you going forward. We intend to keep the process alive until the completion of Project Waking Titan in August. It is important to mention that we are very excited by the coming Phases 2 and 3. Input from the Mercury Subroutine will pave the way toward new experiences in version 1.3 of a familiar universe. We look forward to the successful conclusion of this ground-breaking experiment. Regards. S.M."
What's Waking Titan? What's Phase 2 and 3? We don't know yet. But if the goal was to get attention back on this once-forgotten game? It worked.
We'll keep you posted if I learn something else. Maybe No Man's Sky might be worth buying soon...!
