A brief introduction to the source: A journalist over at Kotaku recently had a word with the ultimate authority on all things Legend of Zelda, Eiji Aouma, during the final day of E3, and asked him what our chances are for a remake of the most beloved yet disturbingly dark chapter in the Legend of Zelda franchise, Majoras Mask.
Talk and pleas for a remake of the Nintendo 64 title started when the Ocarina of Time was officially remade and remastered for the 3DS, making it the second time that particular game had been ported into a new system (Remember Master Quest for the Gamecube? Yeah, Wind Waker became the first game I ever preordered to get my hands on that gem) yet left fans of Majoras Mask out in the cold. Nintendo refused to comment on the possibility of a remake, which made the eventual cameo of Majoras Mask hidden away in A Link Between Worlds all the more maddening.
But Nintendo isnt Pixarit doesnt hint at future games via Easter eggs in the old ones. So does it mean anything?
According to Aouma, yes and no. (Regarding the easter egg in Link to the Past) Maybe I was toying with them a little. (laughter) I'm doing everything I can. I hear the voices of the fans. There are so many out there. It's very loud, and just to acknowledge the fact that the need, the want is out there, I put that in there.
So from what we can gather, hes obviously not the final say on if there will be that remake or not, but if nothing else it seems like hes interested in doing it. Its possible Nintendo feels a little spotty on remaking that particular title (it would very much be a game for the fans, rather than a game that attracted new gamersand their fans, unfortunately, havent been too reliable at keeping them in the black) but with a little luck and a lot more whining we may see something more conclusive coming in the near future.
In the meantime, I have to ask: why would anyone want an HD remake of Majoras Mask? That freakin moon was horrifying enough, why do we want to have another, scarier moon haunt our nightmares? Some people, I swear.
