Nintendo Switch won't Launch with Netflix

Yep, more Switch news. If that annoys you (which I wouldn’t blame you for), I suggest finding a rock and living under it for the next few weeks, because Nintendo’s new console is coming fast and news will be coming out at lightning pace.

Anyway, Nintendo’s Switch has gotten a mixed, and rather decisive reaction. Some people really love it, clearly enough to empty out the pre-orders, while others see it as a failure before it even has the chance to prove itself. One of the criticisms from the folks in the latter category is that the system doesn’t have enough stuff going for it yet: there are too much hardware and costs, with not enough games or features to justify it. And, this just in, one of the most welcome features a switch console could have, Netflix, will not be available. At least, not at launch.

In fact, according to Business Insider, the Switch won’t have ANY “multimedia functions at launch." One of Nintendo’s own Kit Ellis, is apparently the source of this tidbit of information (can we really call it a leak?), which seems to be supported by the fact that nowhere in the Switch press release did they talk about Netflix, youtube, twitch, or anything else like that.

Now, given that the 3DS and the Wii U have Netflix apps, it seems unlikely that a portable system like the Switch, perfect for such a thing, wouldn’t get its own eventually. The big question is, how long will it take, and if you’ll need to have the online subscription from Nintendo in order to use it, which actually has a precedent thanks to Microsoft.

Still, one more bit of bad news from the Nintendo Switch camp. We really need some good news to balance out all these unwelcome revelations we’ve been getting…
